A fresh face

Last week I put my littlest child in a wagon, and went door to door to every neighbor's house with Larry Henfling and Bobby McManus, and a stack of flyers. We were asking for our neighbors to join us in a Neighborhood Watch meeting, with only 2 days notice. I was nervous that many of the neighbors wouldn't be able to make it, and I had a busy day already scheduled, but as I rushed home to make it on time, I was flooded with gratitude for my neighbors, nearly every single one of them, had made it and were there in front of my driveway.

And every officer that I had talked to on the phone about our meeting was there as well. Though they didn't have to be! They were so helpful in answering so many questions that we all had about what we can do. How we can communicate with each other and our law enforcement. Things to improve the security of our homes and neighborhood. The officers did a fantastic job steering the conversations to provoke a lot of thought. Such as when Deputy Kennedy asked how many of us home owners had a fire arm. Nearly every hand in our crowd was raised- I admit I got chills! Simply because of what a powerful show of strength that really was, if our violator was in our midst, or if they became aware of our meeting, they would become aware of that fact!

Many people in our surrounding area are also aware of the increase in break-ins and theft, because it's either affected them, or because word has spread through conversations. Our local gas station, Rough Edge, has also been affected by theft, and they were aware of our meeting. It won't be long until security is restored, or the people responsible are caught. You just can't have this many people aware, and supportiing each other, without it coming to the surface.

I've lived in this neighborhood for 4 & 1/2 years, and I have been pleased with the people that I live amongst. We've been friendly in waving as we come and go, many of us go on walks and say hello as we pass through. The friendliness and conversations have increased since our meeting occured last week, and I'm proud of our neighbors! We're getting out of the rut of our busy lives a little bit, we're strengthening our weak links, and we're taking the action necessary to keep Parkwood Crossing a nice place to live.

This blog will feature some of the goings on in our lives, and things we can do to be better self sufficient and supportive of each other. Look for such topics like Emergency Preparedness in upcoming hurricane season. Gardening tips for the summer. Local activities to enjoy. Remedies with things around your house. If you have anything you'd like to see, or contribute to being published on the blog, email me at apriljames.moore@hotmail.com or leave a comment!

Thanks for stopping by! See ya again here, and around the neighborhood.
